The free CAD program Art of Illusion allows the creation of 3D objects, animations and even 3D scenes. The intuitive interface of this CAD software has been quickly understood so that small art works can be produced in the shortest possible time. There is also the possibility to render and to view the object from different angles, then to edit it with Tools.

The variety of tools makes it easier to use this software, which is offered under the open GNU license. A highlight of the 3D CAD software is certainly the “Procedural Texture Editor”. OpenSCAD

OpenSCAD is a free 3D CAD software that generates 3D models using a text-based description language. The program is easy to understand and is suitable for constructive volume modeling. The objects, which consist of simple, geometric basic bodies, are transformed into a finished 3D model by transformation and modification. The many functions, such as mathematical operations, modifiers, variables, transformations, loops, etc. enable the creation of complex models. Compared to Blender, the CAD program OpenSCAD is less suitable for animations than for the production of machine components, or for preparing models for printing on 3D printers. OpenSCAD script formats are SCAD and CSG, rendered models are exported as STL, OFF, DXF, CSG or image file.

Autodesk 123D is an intuitive 3D software for 3D volume modeling with a wide variety of versions. You can download your own support forums and design templates (furniture, vehicles, animals, tubes, cables, etc.) free of charge on the website, as well as numerous video tutorials for an easier introduction to the subject of 3D construction. In order to make full use of the program, you will need a period of training and some patience. In addition, the video instructions provide enough information to start with the construction of 3D models as quickly as possible.

Autodesk 123 Sculpt+

Autodesk 123D Sculpt + is designed specifically for designing 3D models on the iPad. The modeling is controlled by the finger on the iPad. With the app available on iTunes, users can easily apply 3D modeling tools such as Rotate, Zoom in, Zoom out, and grouping. Tinkercad is a free entry-level online app for designing simple models. There is even a wide range of templates (geometric figures, letters, cones, cubes, etc.) that can be used free of charge or you simply import already existing 2D and 3D designs. The 3D models can be exported in formats STL, OBJ, X3D, VRML or SVG or directly to a 3D printer. If you want, you can also upload the models in the 3D printing community Thingiverse and get tips and tricks to improve, or simply to get some praise.
